Eight newcomers joined this week's football rankings. They are: ThunderRidge (5A), Ponderosa (4A), Harrison (3A), Salida and Berthoud (2A), Buena Vista (1A), Mancos (8-man), and Cotopaxi (6-man).
Neither team could get anything going in the first half Friday, a Week 1 matchup between host Berthoud and No. 4 Platte Valley. Finally in the second half, it was the Broncos who gained enough footing for a 16-0 win.
