The Class 4A baseball tournament, which was postponed due to unplayable fields on Monday, has been moved to Metro State on Thursday.

Games will run all day long at the field, so long as weather permits play, according to CHSAA assistant commissioner Bert Borgmann, who oversees baseball. The field is a complete artificial surface, including the mound, batter’s box and bases, so it is more resilient than the traditional baseball field.

The games played on Thursday will comprise those originally scheduled for the second day of the tournament. Those were originally postponed to Monday at Bishop Machebeuf HS and All-Star Park in Lakewood. However, both fields were unplayable on Monday, and remain unplayable.

Noting that Evergreen has graduation scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, new game times for 4A are as follows:

  • Game 7: Windsor vs. D’Evelyn, 9 a.m.
  • Game 9: Game 7 winner vs. Wheat Ridge, 11:30 a.m.
  • Game 11: Ponderosa vs. Green Mountain, 2 p.m.
  • Game 8: Erie vs. Lewis-Palmer, 4:30 p.m.
  • Game 10: Game 8 winner vs. Evergreen, 7 p.m.

The bracket has been updated to reflect these changes.

No 4A games have been scheduled for Friday, so it can be used as a makeup date for any games that don’t complete play, if needed.

In addition, continued wet weather leading to other unplayable fields has this weekend’s 5A and 4A tournament schedule up in the air. Both are scheduled to play Friday and Saturday, with 4A at All-Star Park in Lakewood and 5A at All-City Field in Denver.

“All field field sites are reporting very, very iffy field conditions,” Borgmann said.

It is expected to continue to rain in the metro area off and on through the weekend.

As a result, Borgmann said, “We are now looking at what options are available next week.”

A decision on whether or not to move the 5A and 4A tournaments will be made by noon on Wednesday. As of right now, 2A and 3A remain scheduled for this weekend.
