AURORA — The state playoff brackets have been released for 5A, 2A, 1A and 8-man football.
Find each bracket here:
Additionally, these are available on the CHSAANow app:
League champions automatically qualified for the postseason brackets in each classification, and then the remainder of the brackets were filled by the final RPI standings of the regular season — with one exception: in 5A, the final at-large qualifier was selected by the seeding committee, which is comprised of two representatives from each classification.
In 5A, 2A and 1A, the brackets were then seeded using a combination of four ranking systems, equally weighted: the RPI, the CHSAANow coaches poll — a final one was released on Sunday — the MaxPreps Rankings, and the Packard Ratings. These data points were combined into a single formula. The data that was used for seeding is available on this page.
8-man had its own seeding criteria, which uses RPI, common opponents, strength of schedule and head-to-head competition.
Earning No. 1 overall seeds were: Cherry Creek (5A), Rifle (2A), Strasburg (1A) and Sedgwick County (8-man).
The first rounds in each bracket are this coming weekend. Each bracket is a 16-team format, except for 5A, where 24 teams qualify and the top eight teams receive a bye.
The state championship games are set for Nov. 30 (8-man, 1A, 2A) and Dec. 7 (5A).
