He is, quite simply, the most prolific passer in Colorado high school football history.
A week after setting the career record for most touchdowns in a career, Fairview quarterback Aidan Atkinson set the state’s career passing record in the first half of his team’s Thursday night game against Rocky Mountain.
At the end of the night, Atkinson was 41-of-47 for 613 yards, and threw five touchdowns with one interception. That gives him 11,064 yards in his career — so far.
Atkinson broke the previous mark of 10,565, which was set by former Bear Creek quarterback Justin Holland from 1997-2000. He entered needing just 115 yards to break the record.
Atkinson threw for 3,405 yards a sophomore, 3,952 as a junior, and had thrown for 3,094 through nine games as a senior.
This is the latest state record that Atkinson now holds.
His 55 touchdown passes as a junior are a season record, and Atkinson also holds 11-man records for touchdown passes and passing yards in a game. Last week, he also set a state record with eight touchdown passes in a half.
