A big sixth inning was the difference as third-ranked Douglas County baseball rallied to beat No. 7 Rocky Mountain in a Class 5A top-10 showdown on Monday.
Down 3-1 after the top of the sixth, Douglas County plated four runs in the bottom half, and then held Rocky scoreless in the seventh to seal a 5-3 win.
Case Williams, a junior, went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and also picked up a save with three strikeouts in the seventh.
Senior Murphy Gienger pitched six innings for Douglas County, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and a walk. He had seven strikeouts.
Cade Nelson for 3-for-3 for Rocky Mountain, and also threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits and three walks.
Douglas County is now 9-1 this season, including a perfect 5-0 in Colorado, and have won six games in a row.
The Huskies have a marquee matchup against No. 1 Mountain Vista scheduled for Wednesday.
