On the heels of its first-ever state baseball championship, Mountain Vista has ended the season ranked No. 8 nationally.
MaxPreps released the final national rankings of the 2018 season. The Golden Eagles were No. 8 in both the writers poll and the computer rankings.
This is the highest a Colorado team has finished the season in the computer rankings since Rocky Mountain was No. 7 in 2010. Other notable high finishes include Eaton (No. 17 in 2015), Rocky Mountain (No. 11 in 2014), and Cherry Creek (No. 12 in 2012).
Mountain Vista went 26-1 in claiming the Class 5A crown, losing only its first game of the double-elimination state tournament. They then won five games in a row to win the title.
After the season, the Golden Eagles placed five players on the All-State teams, including 5A player of the year Sam Ireland, a junior. Ron Quintana was also named 5A coach of the year.
Mountain Vista is also ranked No. 3 in the West Region.
Also ranked among the top 300 nationally are 4A champion Valor Christian (42nd), 5A runner-up Heritage (206th), and 3A champion University (296th). Valor Christian is also ranked No. 8 in the West Region.
