Sand Creek boys basketball has forfeit its win against Palmer on Jan. 2 for using an ineligible player.

The school self-reported the incident to the CHSAA office last week, and decided to forfeit the game on Monday, according to CHSAA assistant commissioner Bert Borgmann, who oversees basketball

“The school accepted a transfer student, played him in a game, and later discovered that there were some issues with that transfer,” Borgmann said. “They did the right thing, and forfeit the game in which he played. They are addressing issues within the program to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Of the decision to self-report and forfeit the game, CHSAA commissioner Paul Angelico said, “This is a shining example of the ethics and morality that make the Association work.”

The player in question only played against Palmer, and does not have varsity eligibility.

As a result, Sand Creek is now 13-4 this season.
