GREENWOOD VILLAGE — Tonight, the Cherry Creek Bruins will be playing their home opener as they host cross-town foe Arapahoe.

It’s been a long time since the Warriors and Bruins met on the gridiron, but for the first time since 2009, the two will compete to keep their strong seasons going.

Cherry Creek is coming off a 27-13 win on the road against Doherty. After losing in the opening week the Bruins are looking to get above .500 with a win.

They’ll look to get off to a hot start in front of a home crowd. A win this week is important with games against Grandview and Valor Christian looming in the next two weeks.

On the Warrior sideline, Arapahoe starts the season 2-0 with a week 1 win over Rock Canyon before winning the Milk Jug with their victory over Heritage. This will be the first test of the year for the Warriors in hostile territory as their first two games were in the comforts of home at Littleton Public Schools Stadium.

Both teams are highlighted by the play of their defense. Bruins are deep on talent defensively as is Arapahoe. The number to watch out for when it comes to the Warriors is eight, which is the total number of points they have allowed in their two games.

“A win tonight will get this team in a rhythm for the challenging games we have ahead,” senior linebacker Jack Pezdirtz said. “A win tonight will do nothing but raise our confidence level which we need. With our young offense and our defense on the verge of becoming a great defense, a win will secure the confidence we need (moving) on.”

Two rival schools facing off on the football field is always a fun sight to watch. Tonight will be no different with this matchup between CHSAANow.com No. 8 Cherry Creek and Arapahoe at Stutler Bowl.
