Rock Canyon hired former Colorado Mammoth defenseman John Gallant as its new boys lacrosse coach, athletic director Tom Brieske announced on Tuesday via Twitter.

“During the interview, it became evident and clear that he’s an educator first,” Brieske said. “He has an incredible background in education, passion for lacrosse and is a genuine, hard-working guy who really wants to educate kids through the game of lacrosse and create long-lasting relationships with student-athletes.”
Gallant spent the entirety of his 14-year National Lacrosse League career with the Mammoth and retired in 2015. He is the Mammoth’s all-time leader in ground balls and games played, and was named to the All-Decade team in 2012.
He currently teaches second grade at Tollgate Elementary in Aurora, and has spent the last two high school lacrosse seasons as an assistant at Valor Christian under head coach John Grant Jr., a former Mammoth teammate.
Gallant replaces former Jaguars head coach Louis Goldin, who resigned after nine years at the end of the 2016 season to take some time off coaching. Rock Canyon boys lacrosse has gone to the Class 5A playoffs the last four seasons, capped with a 46-21 mark.
