Colorado Academy is already in a good position to defend its 2015 girls state lacrosse championship. The Mustangs come into the tournament as the No. 1 overall seed on the bracket, which was released on Monday.

First round games of the tournament are set to be completed by Wednesday.

Mullen, Cherry Creek and Kent Denver round out the top four seeded teams in this year’s tournament. Denver East, which along with Colorado Academy and Cherry Creek advanced to last year’s Final 4, comes in as the No. 5-seeded team.

Plenty of fresh faces were able to play their way into this year’s tournament.

Battle Mountain and Dakota Ridge come in as the No. 16 and 17 teams, respectively, and will play one another in the first round.

Cheyenne Mountain gets its girls team in to match the boys as the Indians land as the No. 13 seed and will take on Valor Christian.

Aspen (No. 15) and Pine Creek (No. 18) are also new qualifiers this year and like Battle Mountain and Dakota Ridge, they will face off in the first round this week.
