The basketball programs at Overland and Grandview have brought a lot of attention to Colorado this week.
Overland’s boys team and Grandview’s girls team are both ranked in the top-10 nationally in the most recent computer rankings published weekly by MaxPreps. Overland is ranked seventh after moving up 250 spots from last week. Grandview, meanwhile, moved up 288 places to tenth.
Overland went 4-0 in Las Vegas last week to win the prestigious Platinum Division at the annual Tarkanian Classic. That included a championship-game victory against Bishop Gorman (Nev.) in which the Trailblazers won 58-56 thanks to a game-winning shot from senior De’Ron Davis with four seconds to play.
Davis, the Indiana commit, had 20 points and nine rebounds in the championship game. And Jervae Robinson, later named MVP of the tournament, added 16 points.
Overland also beat Long Beach Poly (Calif.), Dillard (Fla.), and Bingham (Utah) last week. The team is now 7-0, and unanimously ranked No. 1 in the most recent Class 5A poll released on Monday.
The Blazers, defending 5A champions, are off until Jan. 5, when they play at No. 5 Regis Jesuit.
Other Colorado boys teams ranked in the national top-150 include ThunderRidge (No. 75), Eaglecrest (No. 111) and Cherokee Trail (No. 139).

Grandview’s girls have started 6-0 this season. They feature junior Michaela Onyenwere, a reigning first-team all-state pick in 5A who is averaging 24 points per game so far this season.
The Wolves do no travel out-of-state this season. They own wins over Green Mountain, Monarch, Mesa Ridge, Poudre, Rampart and Lakewood so far this season. Of those, Mesa Ridge (4A No. 2), Poudre (5A No. 8), and Lakewood (5A No. 5) are currently ranked.
Grandview fell to Lakewood in the 5A Sweet 16 last season. The Wolves are currently ranked No. 2 in 5A, just behind Highlands Ranch.
Highlands Ranch was No. 23 in last week’s Xcellent 25 national rankings, which are compiled by writers. Highlands Ranch has been playing at the annual Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, and is 2-1 so far.
The Falcons are No. 87 in this week’s MaxPreps computer poll. Other Colorado teams in the top 150 include ThunderRidge (No. 32) and Ralston Valley (No. 150).
