Update, 4:19 p.m. on Oct. 22: The tournaments have been postponed one day to a Saturday/Sunday format.

Original story, posted on Oct. 21:

AURORA — State softball is Friday and Saturday, and though the forecast looks to be clear — for now — the CHSAA office has released weather contingencies for the tournament.

Currently, there is only a 30 percent chance of rain on Friday afternoon, and no chance of rain on Saturday, according to Weather Underground. However, it rained overnight in the area of Aurora Sports Park on Wednesday, and is continuing through the day. Additionally, rain is likely on Thursday.

That could leave fields unplayable at the start of the tournament.

“We are going to do our best to stick to the schedule, if the weather allows it,” said CHSAA assistant commissioner Bud Ozzello, who oversees softball. “I have already been in contact with Aurora Sports Park (on Wednesday), and we will be in constant communication until the tournaments begin.”

The following contingency has been communicated to schools:

This is a reminder that according to the Colorado High School Activities Association Bylaw 5010, we will utilize the first available day to conclude tournament games in the case of unplayable fields.

If games are postponed or delayed on Friday (10/23) or Saturday (10/24), the start of the bracket will be moved to Saturday (10/24) with the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday (10/25). The Aurora Sports Park has been reserved for two complexes to be available to complete the tournament. The basic philosophy of this tournament is to push game times back until we can get on the field. If we must postpone, we will attempt to maintain the game time schedules.

All schools will need to communicate this information to their players, parents, administrators and fans. The CHSAANow.com website will be updated with complete and current information with any delays and or postponements.

The 2013 tournament was actually delayed by snow, and pushed back to a Saturday/Sunday format.
