Montrose (6-2) and unbeaten Durango (9-0) faced off in a Southwestern League doubleheader on Saturday and the Durango Demons left Montrose with a sweep and a still-pristine record, winning 7-2 and 12-3 on the day.

“Our boys competed today,” Durango head coach Rob Coddington said. “There were a lot of moments in today’s games we can learn from. Looking forward to practice on Monday so we can keep working hard. Montrose is well coached and played hard today. Parker Davis competed in the first game and kept us off balance. Hoping we can keep playing hard in the second half of the season.”

In Game 1, the Demons led 4-0 after three innings and 5-0 after five with Gage Mestas taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning before Montrose got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. In Game 2, Montrose jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning before Durango played to a 12-1 advantage the rest of the way.

“We battled hard,” Montrose head coach Landon Wareham said. “Durango played well.”
