ThunderRidge has named Samantha Martin its new girls basketball coach, promoting the former assistant to take over its program.
Martin, a 2010 graduate of Chaparral, is a social studies teacher at ThunderRidge, and was an assistant coach for the girls basketball team the past two seasons.
She played college basketball at Colorado State from 2010-14, earning all-conference honors and serving as team captain. Martin played professionally in Switzerland after she graduated.
“She is incredibly passionate about building relationships and implementing a mindset that creates competitiveness and growth,” said ThunderRidge athletic director Sean Patterson.
Martin takes over for Matt Asik, who resigned after this past season. Asik went 44-33 in three seasons, and led the Grizzlies to the Class 5A championship in 2015-16.
