Lakewood senior Camilla Emsbo has been named Colorado’s Gatorade girls basketball player of the year.
Emsbo, a 6-foot-5 senior, helped Lakewood go 23-4 and reach the Class 5A Final 4 this past season. She averaged 18.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.6 blocks, 1.7 steals and 1.7 assists per game.
Emsbo just the second Lakewood athlete to ever be honored as a Gatorade player of the year, following Darrin Muilenburg, who won the football award in 1985-86.
“Camilla is one of those kids who makes her team better, makes the players around her better,” said Columbine coach Greg Bolding. “She does everything the right way, and with a great attitude. She’s one of the greatest players I’ve coached against.”
Off the court, Emsbo carries a 4.83 weighted GPA. She will play college basketball at Yale.
Emsbo volunteers locally with the Key Club, and also on behalf of an adaptive swimming program which specializes in therapeutic treatment for children with disabilities.
