For a freshman, Korbe Otis isn’t too shabby. Actually, for a high school softball player in general, she’s pretty darn good.
Otis went 2-for-3, driving in three runs as Class 5A No. 10 Columbine knocked defending state champion, No. 9 Cherokee Trail 8-0 on Tuesday.
Oh, she also three a complete game, allowing just two hits while striking out 11 hitters.
“Korbe has been huge for us and her mental toughness is unbelievable for a freshman,” Columbine coach Jim Santaniello said. “She just brings it every game and we’re really tough when she’s pitching for us.”
The Rebels (8-3) scored twice in the bottom of the first and then exploded for six runs in the third. Neither team would score the rest of the game.
The Cougars (7-4) look to rebound when they travel to Lakewood on Wednesday while Columbine looks to keep riding its momentum when it travels to Mullen on Thursday.
