Sand Creek’s search for a girls basketball coach has come to an end.

The Scorpions announced Wednesday that Tommie Johnson has been hired as the new coach for the girls hoops team. He replaces B.J. Johnson, who took a job in the Brooklyn Nets organization this summer.

Tommie Johnson comes from CSU-Pueblo where he served as an assistant coach and head recruiter for the mens basketball team.

He has had previous coaching stops at Colorado College and Cheyenne Mountain, making him no stranger to the Colorado Springs area.

“I am proud and excited to be chosen as the head girls’ basketball coach at Sand Creek High School,” Johnson said in a statement. “I look forward to getting started with our girls right away. I feel fortunate to be trusted with the direction of our girls’ program and hope to be here for a long time.”

The Scorpions went 24-2 last season and advanced to the Class 4A state semifinals where they lost to Evergreen.

“Tommie brings a highly reputable coaching capability to our school,” Sand Creek athletic director Jared Felice said in a statement. “I have complete confidence in his ability and passion to lead our proud girls’ program long into the future.”
