Erie has named Chad Cooper its new football coach, Tigers athletic director Richie Wildenhaus said on Wednesday.
Cooper was most recently the offensive coordinator at Broomfield. He takes over for Chris Summers, who went 10-10 in two seasons.
The school also posted an announcement on its website about the hire, saying, “Coach Cooper’s knowledge of the game of football, his excitement and enthusiasm for working with students, as well as his ability to build outstanding relationships with students, parents, and community members, makes him a perfect fit for Erie High School.”
Cooper is scheduled to meet his new team on April 19 at Erie.
The Tigers play in Class 3A, and went 5-5 last season. They return skill players all over on offense, but will lose a lot to graduation on defense.
Cooper was a longtime assistant under Broomfield’s Gary Davies, who retired after the 2015 season. Broomfield finished 5-5 last season, but advanced to the Class 4A semifinals in 2014.
Broomfield hired Lutheran’s Blair Hubbard this offseason.
