COLORADO SPRINGS — Air Academy High School announced the hire of Scott Grinde as the school’s new football coach on Wednesday.

Grinde is a graduate of Aurora Central High School before moving on to the University of Wyoming, where he was a two-time letter winner as an offensive lineman.

He was then brought on as graduate assistant coach for the football team where he helped on the offensive side of the ball and was also involved in strength and conditioning.

Throughout his career, he has gained 26 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level before moving on to the high school ranks. He was most recently the head coach at Warrensberg High School in Missouri.

The Kadets have finally filled a position that they had previously thought was going to be filled by Derek Smith. Smith had accepted the position at the beginning of March, but unexpectedly pulled out of the job a week later.

Under Mike Roof, Air Academy went 3-7 in 2015.

On top of coaching football, Grinde will join the school as a member of the science department.

This move has been updated in the CHSAANow.com coaching changes tracker.
