Kelly King has been hired as the next softball coach at Green Mountain, the school announced on Tuesday.

King was an assistant for the Rams last season, and has more than 10 years experience as a softball coach. She is currently a physical education teacher at Denver North.

“We are happy to welcome our new softball coach Kelly King to the GM coaching staff,” Green Mountain athletic director Tommy Dodge said in a statement. “We feel Kelly possesses the leadership qualities and organizational skills to help her succeed in this position. Kelly has what it takes to build positive relationships with our student-athletes and support our education-based athletics philosophy.”

The Rams went 12-9 last season in the Class 4A Jeffco League, and fell in the regional round.

King replaces Wes Madrill, whose teams were 24-19 in his two seasons as coach.

Green Mountain will return the majority of its lineup next season, including Cora Tyo (.568, 29 RBIs) and Cassidi Villano (.534, two home runs, 28 RBIs). In fact, just two seniors graduate, but one of them, pitcher Mariah McDermott, started 17 of the Rams’ 20 games in the circle.
