It snowed Wednesday, so it makes sense that winter sports practice begins on Thursday.
Boys and girls basketball, hockey, boys and girls skiing, girls swimming and diving, and wrestling are all set to begin their 2015-16 seasons. The first scrimmage for all winter sports will be Nov. 18. Games are allowed to begin Dec. 1.
Thursday marks the start of a season that won’t end until March, with a break coming toward the end of December.
Though it seems a long way away now, the first championship of the winter season belongs to girls swimming. That meet is Feb. 12-13.
After that, the three-day spectacle that is the state wrestling tournament at the Pepsi Center is Feb. 18-20. The skiing state championships are Feb. 25-26 in Aspen.
Hockey’s title game is March 5 in Loveland, and then the state basketball championships are March 10-12 at different venues around the state.
