West Grand football coach Chris Brown wins No. 300

West Grand football coach Chris Brown won his 300th career game on Friday night.

Brown, in his 40th season, is now 300-121. He becomes the third Colorado high school football coach to ever win 300 games, following longtime Denver East and Machebeuf coach Pat Panek and Dolores County’s Ken Soper.

Panek’s 306 career wins are the most in state history, while Soper had 305.

Brown entered the year with 298 wins. His Mustangs beat Justice 46-0 in Week 1, and then topped Nederland 22-7 on Friday night for No. 300. West Grand trailed 7-6 at halftime last week, but rallied with 16 third-quarter points to pull out the win.

Brown’s career started in 1976 at Limon, where he coached for three seasons, and then spent one year at Walsenburg. Ever since, he’s been at West Grand.

West Grand, an 8-man program, hosts Gilpin County (3-0) this coming Friday.
