LOVELAND — Resurrection Christian moved to 3-0 in this young season with an impressive 55-6 win over Yuma on Friday night.
The Cougars, ranked third in this week’s Class 2A poll, were able to hold Yuma (0-2) scoreless until the third quarter when the Indians managed to score their one and only touchdown of the night.
It was a very fast paced game for the Cougars, who scored less than two minutes into the game. Senior starting quarterback Michael Stevenson connected a pass to Luke Fick.
It set the tone for the rest of the game.
The crowd was going wild for Fick, who also scored the second touchdown of the game. Quickly, it was 14-0.
The Indians’ offense, on the ensuing drive, was quickly sent off the field quickly when senior Cooper Ward intercepted a pass.
Stevenson, on fire now, took this opportunity to complete another touchdown pass, this one to wide receiver John Hecker.
Before the first quarter ended, Evan Anderson added a rushing touchdown to make it 28-0.

Yuma punted away its first possession of the second quarter, and Resurrection Christian’s Lawson Johnson returned it for a touchdown. Then, with just minutes left in the first half, backup quarterback Brin Hayden, a junior, hit Conner Stahla for another score to make it 42-0.
Another quarter created the opportunity for some of the younger players to get on the field, including freshman Isaac Crane at quarterback for Resurrection Christian.
Crane embraced this opportunity to handle the ball and displayed his talent on the field by tossing two scores — to Brennen Woytassek and Ward — making it 55-0.
The visitor’s side was yelling with excitement when Yuma running back Jesus Mendoza ended the third quarter by scoring his team’s lone touchdown of the game.
Resurrection Christian coach Mark Roggy said he was very impressed with his team’s performance on Friday, especially on defense and special teams.
“We’re going to be a tough team to stop because we have good running and passing game and anytime you can combine a run and a pass together, that’s a tough deal to stop,” Roggy said.
Resurrection Christian knows it is up for a challenge going into next week’s game against No. 5 Platte Canyon, but the team’s mentality remains the same as it does every week.
Roggy said his players need to keep “improving themselves, playing their hardest, and having fun.”
