Lakewood senior Georgia Phillips has been named an AAU Academic All-American.
Now in its third year, the award “recognizes athletes of the AAU Volleyball program for their excellence in academics as well as athletics,” according to the AAU.
Phillips, who plays club volleyball for the Juggernaut Volleyball Club in Golden, is an apt example of that. The outside hitter carries a 4.9 weighted GPA and is the vice president of the National Honor Society at Lakewood.
As an outside hitter for the Tigers, she has 34 kills through three matches, averaging 2.6 per set. She is also averaging 1.9 digs per set.
Lakewood is off to a 3-0 start this season, and sits just outside CHSAANow.com’s Class 5A rankings.
In addition, 2015 Fairview grad Bailey MacInnis was also named to the team.
