AURORA — The Class 1A baseball bracket, originally scheduled for this coming Saturday, has been postponed to Tuesday due to the rain expected in the area this weekend.

The location — All-Star Park in Lakewood — remains the same for Tuesday’s games, as do the times originally set. However, this change also forces the postponement of the 1A title game, which was slated for next Thursday.

Rain is expected to begin on Thursday afternoon, and continue off and on through Sunday. Even if the rain were to stop long enough to play, it would likely leave the field at All-Star Park unplayable this weekend.

No date, or location, has been set for the postponed title game. That will be announced after the finalists are determined on Tuesday, according to CHSAA commissioner Bert Borgmann, who is in charge of baseball.

The decision to move the title game from Thursday was made out of concern that the players from the eventual finalists would pitch too much in a short span.

“With two games on Tuesday, and then trying to turn around and play two days later, it’s not good for the health of arms,” Borgmann said.

The 1A title game will be rescheduled with consideration to the finalists.

“We want to be sensitive to the senior trips that schools may have planned,” Borgmann said.

In addition, the site of the postponed title game may not remain at All-Star Park.

The impending rain has already forced the reschedule of the 5A and 4A girls tennis tournaments, and is expected to hamper district play in 2A-5A baseball this weekend. Weather contingencies for those classes are available here.
