Weather contingencies for regional softball on Saturday

Regional softball is slated for Saturday, and though there is no rain the forecast, wet fields may cause delays.

Rain is expected around the state on Thursday and Friday, which may leave some fields at host sites unplayable on Saturday. If that happens, CHSAA policy “is to begin the delay process utilizing one hour increments for game times,” according to Bud Ozzello, assistant commissioner in charge of softball.

For example, the 10 a.m. game would be pushed back to 11 a.m. and then reassessed at that time.

“Site directors will be doing everything in their power to cover their infields and keep fields playable,” Ozzello said.

Should a regional site not complete games because of unplayable fields, the tournament will utilize the first available day to conclude games. That means if games are postponed on Saturday, they would be moved to Sunday.

“We will have teams traveling to sites and our first responsibilities is for the safety of the student/athletes,” Ozzello said Thursday. “The site director and maintenance crew shall decide whether the grounds and conditions are suitable for starting the game. Once the game starts, the umpires and grounds crew will determine whether conditions are suitable for play.

“We will make every effort to complete the games on Saturday, even if we have to work on a delayed scheduled.”

Up-to-date information delays and postponements will be posted on CHSAANow.com. Additionally, game times will be updated on the brackets:
